Supporting First Nations Peoples

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands we live and work on. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, of all First Nations Peoples, with an ever-lasting and enduring culture that has existed in Australia for over 65,000 years.

Our policy.

PM Solutions prioritises the inclusion and empowerment of First Nations Peoples, actively seeking to incorporate Indigenous individuals throughout its workforce. This commitment draws inspiration from CEO Mark Porter’s Indigenous heritage and his special connection to the Nunukul Peoples of Minjerribah and the Quandamooka Peoples. It also acknowledges the historical hardships faced by First Nations Australians, paying respects to Mark’s great-great grandfather Kiapemba Mann, a proud Nunukul man, who endured the trauma of the stolen generations.

Our focus.

In 2008, PM Solutions established its First Nations Peoples Cultural Respect and Awareness Policy and program, which is mandatory for all employees, consultants, and externally utilised subcontractors. This policy ensures that all personnel undergo cultural awareness knowledge transfer and become familiar with PM Solutions’ First Nations Peoples Cultural Respect and Awareness Policy. The primary objective of this policy is to enhance the awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ culture, history, beliefs, social issues, and ongoing challenges among First nations communities.

Our commitment.

PM Solutions is fully dedicated to the recruitment, training, and advancement of Indigenous Australians within the fields of project management, delivery, and consultancy. In various significant facets of our consultancy and contract work, we are committed to providing suitable training and support to achieve our goal of including Indigenous Australians within 15% to 25% of our workforce. Where possible, we actively seek to involve Indigenous Australians in our projects and actively pursue training and support opportunities to empower them to assume upper-level management and future leadership positions within our organisation.

Respect.
Understanding.
Trust.

Through increased awareness and education, our policy aims to drive behavioural change among PM Solutions’ employees, contractors, subcontractors, and consultants. This transformation will, in turn, contribute to improved service delivery and better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and stakeholders. In addition to offering basic cross-cultural information, our policy seeks to build a knowledge base and foster a deeper understanding of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their challenges, and historical events. This understanding will assist our teams in fulfilling their contracted duties and will help develop greater respect, understanding, and trust with Indigenous communities.

Key elements of our policy.

01

Basic cross-cultural training

This training will provide PM Solutions personnel with a foundational understanding of First Nations cultures, histories, and protocols.

02

Knowledge base development

The framework will establish a knowledge base of resources and information about First Nations Peoples, communities, and issues.

03

Post-event learning

Following interactions with First Nations communities, PM Solutions personnel will reflect on their experiences and identify areas for improvement.

Overall, the PM Solutions policy for working with First Nations Peoples is a commitment to building respectful, understanding, and trusting relationships with First Nations communities. By promoting positive behavioural change among its teams, PM Solutions aims to contribute to better service delivery and improved outcomes for First Nations Peoples.
